Book Review on “The Outsiders” by: S.E Hinton pgs.192

“They grew up on the outside of society. They weren’t looking for a fight. They were looking to belong.”

The book The Outsiders is about a group of gang members who call themselves the Greasers. The Greasers get there name from there hair always being greased back. The main characters of this story are Ponyboy Curtis,Sodapop, and Darry and they are all apart of the Greaser gang. These are there nicknames of course and they’re all brothers.Ponyboy is the narrator of this story and Sodapop and him are tooken care of by the the oldest brother Darrel a.k.a Darry because they have recently lost there parents due to a automobile accident.

The Greasers have a rivalry with another gang who call themselves the Socials a.k.a the Socs. The greasers and the socs have always had a problem. The greasers are more of the poor group and the socs all have money and they live on opposite sides of the city.Every time they see one another they fight or try to kill each other. So you probably know whats going to happen. The greasers and the socs get into it and three of the socs end up dead. The police then accuse Ponyboy as one of the killers and he has to go to court. In court they realize that he does have a legal guardian and cause something else.

I really liked this book a lot.It kept me on my toes at all times I never knew what was going to happen next.It was very interesting because it was written by a teenager about teenagers.I didn’t know that things really happen like this within gangs and its all true that its kind of scary. This book also was mad into a movie.
This is a very mature book that has cursing in it.I wouldn’t recommend this book to kids under the age of 14 just because of what the book consist of.This book has a lot of character and it is actually very entertaining. I enjoy this book a lot and would read it again.
